That is awesome! Thank you for posting this, it's a sad but true reality. Dealing with customers everyday, I learned the hard way that YOU as the business owner need to set the standard and NOT follow how everyone else is doing it.... And I have learned the customer isn't always right. :)

Howard - firing is good and does get easier, but re-training is much more profitable for those clients open to it. ;-)

Bob - well, for one example; we stopped doing "free estimates." This went against EVERYONE else in the industry. But the "free estimate" policy pre-framed the prospect to expect more of the same once they were a customer. As soon as we structured a "property analysis" and framed the initial visit that way, we not only got paid right from the start; but we also were now positioned (and justified) to ask for and get more money all the way through the relationship. The <a href="http://tribalseduction.com/marketingforlife.php/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">"Marketing For Life" program</a> helps address this and much more. ;-)

I can see this happening but how do you correct it? What were some of the steps you took in the business you mentioned above?

LOL!

I've been a big proponent of "firing my clients" for a long time!

It's good to keep in mind your value and there are may people who need and want your services, so don't be tempted to take everyone that comes along. Some are definitely more trouble than it's worth!

Good post - thanks for the reminder!
