Coach Deb reveals her #1 Blog World Expo Secret

Deborah Micek here, reporting from the Blog World Expo 2009 floor. (not exactly LIVE, but this quickie video will give you a feel for what Blog World Expo is really all about.)

Blog World & New Media Expo in Vegas this past weekend was yet another mega success (at least for those of us who made it so by getting what we came for. Yeah, it’s good to have goals when you go to Blog WORLD, ya know what I’m sayin?)

With over 300 speakers on panels at Blog World Expo all in the span of just 3 days, it can get rather overwhelming. Especially if you go to all the sponsored tweetups, meetups and after parties sponsored by cool companies and people like @JasonFalls @Mashable, @AdventureGirl, @TechSet, @Mike_Stelzner, @MariSmith, @bhgre_sherry and so many others.

By the last day, at the last hour of the day, I found a nice corner in the back of the breakout area to put my feet up, laugh a little and just hung out with my good friends (and well respected colleagues) Denise Wakeman and Rich Brooks. (Yes, there’s a back-story to this reunion meetup – but we’ll save that for another post. mmkay?)

In this casual 3 minute video, Rich Brooks from Maine, asks me to reveal how I do it all.

How do I get from one event to another and keep on going? Motivational secret revealed in this video. (I Guarantee you, no other motivational speaker has EVER revealed this little known secret that only the MEGA successful know about.)

As you enjoy this fun, impromptu video interview that THE Rich Brooks originally created to send to his brother-in-law, you may notice “another layer” in the background. Actually a few Tribal factors are also seen throughout the video.

Ok, that’s all I’m saying. I’ll leave the rest of the clues and social media tribal customs for friends, fans and tweeps to uncover in the video and reveal in the comments below. (Be sure to add your Twitter handle!)

Do you notice the Tribal language and customs of Tweeters in the video? Let’s just say, in casual, conversational interviews like this, there are many other layers and lessons to learn from – if you dig beneath the surface, and ask the right questions when they pop up in your mind. Ya’ know, the smart questions like, “WTF is that?!” #LikeTheLongAssHashtags and shtuff like that.

Online Video Or Bust: Reality Mastermind Guys Share Their Tips with Coach Deb

Please forgive the poor sound quality in the beginning.

We received feedback that our voices couldn’t be heard and we adjusted the mic accordingly. Well, apparently people were able to hear the star, James Wedmore speak. As for “the others” well, we were mere pawns on his show anyway. (I think he set it up so this would be the result :)

Ustream was a wee bit glitchy for this LIVE video show. :( BUT this goes to prove the power of video. The number of participants only continued to GROW by the minute, despite our voices coming in and out.

Lesson of this “poor video quality”? Just DO It!

And as David Grau pointed out, “Just Keep Swimming” is the other hidden lesson in this video. (Hidden because you could probably barely hear him! Thank goodness for the clever post it notes! Sexy visual, wouldn’t cha’ say?)

When people see or hear your name, what instantly comes to their mind? Do you know? Do your clients know your niche/speciality and how you can help them best? If not – the time is now to get that laser focused message across in a big way for the new year. Who’s with me?

I thought it was easier to share my thoughts via video of a major distinction I made in 2008 that has catapulted me for going Big Time in ‘09. My wish for you is to make similar distinctions so you can go Big Time in ‘09!

I’ve met so many wonderful people this year on Twitter and all the different places I spoke throughout the year, that I wanted to set up something special for the followers/fans/friends who’ve asked me for a private coaching session to help them with their brand, their business and their goals.

in Dallas, Texas as she was getting prepped for a TV interview for
a new network: Elevision TV “TV that takes you to a higher level”.

Mari Smith was co-conspirator here and took some behind the scenes
footage while Bill Hibbler from eCommerce Confidental was in the blue
room with me interviewing me about Twitter & the Twitter Revolution
book.

Elevision is a new TV channel that will be on next year. I was
honored to be among the inaugural crew that was in the studio for
a series of business building interviews. Topics discussed in the
interviews for the different shows ranged from social media to growing
your business using best practices with some of the world’s best
business minds.

It was a blast, made brilliant connections for BLOGi360 among other things I’ll be excited to share with you in the New Year… but for now… I’ll give you a sneak peek at what Mari Smith and I were up to this month in Dallas.

You’ll see the panic they almost put me in… and I hope there are other Tweeters out there who share my pain. Afterall… how can you do an interview highlighting the power of Twitter and not be able to tweet about it. Right?! C’mon now – who feels my pain? New Media Marketing Case Study: What the World’s Oldest Profession Can Teach You About Marketing With Online Video

You don’t need to have a techie or online business to benefit from the power of New Media marketing. The difference between winners and losers when using New Media marketing strategies is not in intelligence, technology, or industry — it’s in the strategy, mindset, and skills of influence employed.

The world’s oldest profession shows you how to (and how NOT to) market with New Media

As some of you know, the way we got to live our ideal lifestyle in Hawaii is by my starting, growing, and selling two 7-figure companies in the horticulture industry. Both were generating healthy cash flow, but my passion was always with the design/build work we did for affluent clients and owners of private estates.

Because of that, I still keep my finger on the pulse of the Landscape Design/Build industry. That includes monitoring how companies are using New Media to market their off-line business. This case study is based on one of those companies and will show you how virtually any company in any industry — online or off-line — can use New Media to market and sell more.

If you were to pick the most unlikely industry to use New Media, why not chose the oldest profession in the world. And if you’re thinking prostitution, that’s not it. Besides, I’m sure you’d agree that industry pretty much figured out how to use the Internet.

The world’s oldest profession is actually gardening. After all, that’s what God had Adam doing to keep busy before Eve ever stepped foot in the Garden of Eden, right? Well, in this case study you have some very powerful lessons laid out based on what some people in this profession have done right and wrong online with New Media.

One company used New Media Marketing to influence, persuade, and connect with new prospects and their existing client base in a memorable way. The second company got it all wrong.

The business that got it right

The landscape design/build firm Rosenlof/Lucas in Minnesota had a project that was featured in an HGTV program. But instead of relying on a single episode of a cable show to generate buzz, they created a simple four-minute video that has allowed them to maximize leverage with a single project to attract new prospects and clients using online video.

First – watch the video and the read on to learn from what they did right using the New Media marketing channel of online video. Then – we’ll take a look at what they left out and what they could have done better.

OK, so it may be pretty obvious what they did right at the end of the video, but let’s start at the beginning and go through the online persuasion strategies they incorporated with this New Media foray.

Online Persuasion done right

    1: Use a personal/informal tone. The video starts with an informal and completely “personal” intro to the company. You feel as if you’re riding along with Matt Olsen.

    2: Grab your target audiences attention up front & disqualify tire-kickers. The initial intro to Rosenlof/Lucas is brief and immediately defines what differentiates their design/build firm from the competition.

    Don’t be afraid of losing people. If you don’t turn off (and turn away) some people, you’re not going to really turn-on anybody either. For example; not everyone likes contemporary design. But Rosenlof/Lucas specializes in that styles, so they’d be foolish to not make that clear. Who cares if people who don’t like contemporary design tune out. That’s not their target audience.

    With my Design/Build company our style was based on French Provincial estates of Europe. We specialized in that style for several reasons, but one was to immediately turn most people away.

    The French Provincial design style is inherently elite and costly, which helped to prospects to disqualify themselves before any of our time was required. Simultaneously, because of a strong stand on exclusivity, we were building rapport with the truly affluent before they even picked up the phone to schedule a consultation. Influence and persuasion not spoken is the most powerful. ;-)
