LOL Paul!!! I didn't know funding was your issue. If that's the case, where do the "scientists" who support the idea of man-made global warming get their funding? Hmmmmm...

And BTW -- careful frying those fish!!! Some militant environmentalist may be passing by and report you for spewing excess carbon into the air. And I'm sure some vegi-nazi won't be far behind them excoriating you for killing a defenseless creature to nourish yourself. You evil, evil man. :) !

J.P. I would absolutely love to debate this issue with you so much further but there are bigger fish to fry so I'll be brief.

The point of Earth Hour isn't/wasn't to save energy for just one hour but to raise awareness of energy-efficiency so that people are more aware of their energy use and are more energy-efficient for the long term. In business it's not just "sell more" to make more money; spending less increases profit and is thus another way make more money. Energy-efficiency is not just beneficial for environmental & social issues but benefits business too.

I welcome any alternative views backed up by facts but saying the CfA press release from 2003 you present here as being free of any oil influence is incorrect; two of the authors were from an organisation that was part-funded by ExxonMobil and the other was one of several scientists who were known as "familiar spokespeople from ExxonMobil-funded organizations".

Now you have a nice day, be good and be successful J.P. and I look forward to catching up with you sometime soon :)

Nice take on the topic. I landed here from your youtube video and I like the thought of "Earth Day" instead of just an "hour". But I think "earth minute" will not happen. LOL

I guess global warming or not, the earth will heal itself. Its only us humans who will perish. And if we continue to do nothing, the future generations will not see nature as we did. Remember the ozone layer growing thin? It took laws to ban chemicals to stop it from thinning. And it was successful.

Paul ~ read your post and think you missed the point.

A) I am NOT an "objective journalist." Don't put myself out there as one. And I would argue (many agreeing) that there is not such thing as a journalist who does not inject their opinion or allow their world view to saturate their writing/reporting.

B) My point in writing the article was to draw attention to and provide a living example of how Tribal Seduction works even on a global scale. The environmental movement is very good at engaging emotions, even if I and many scientists increasingly disagree with their positions/claims. By seeing Tribal Marketing in action; seducing millions around the world into taking action on something that has no tangible impact -- what could you learn from that and apply in your marketing and sales?

If people disagree with alternative views backed with facts, well.... that gets into a religious discussion. Some would say that's what the environmental movement has become. But alas, as interesting a topic that is and as many correlations as there are -- that is a discussion for another day. ;-)

Hey J.P. that's a very persuasive sales pitch but I just don't buy it.

Whilst there's some fascinating points here and it's agreed that Earth Hour should be more than just an hour, there's probably not enough room here to expand upon the points made so I've stripped "the naked truth" down to "the bare bones" in Questioning the Questioners.

Going further down the rabbit hole is always a little more uncomfortable but at least there's more to see.

I know this is months after you wrote this post, but I just came across it and am pleased that I'm not the only one in the world with common sense. You should read an amazing book titled "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism", (easily found on amazon). Similarly structured to your discussion of global warming, it provides supplemental texts for further research. It expounds on the UN's proposals, and on exactly why those proposals lacked crucial climate information, and on what exactly would happen if we were to accept the Kyoto protocol, what the media refuses to tell us. And on top of all that, it's written with a sense of humor!

I'm becoming impatient for the day when I can tell them all, "I told you so."

Franco -- I was bathed in light, rich sound, and the warm glow of the movie screen in my entertainment room during Earth Hour. :)

Lisa -- Thanks for the kudoos. btw -- the 666 link is just to get people to think about what the media does to us, not to give any credit to the evil one.

Warren -- silliness, yes. Harmless no. Glad you have seen the light. (Hah! Light! Get it, light-- "turn off your lights for Earth Hour." Ahhh, I crack myself up. :P

My first reaction to the "Earth Hour" silliness was to just ignore it.

Then I heard about your video and just had to see what you are up to.

Well done. Loved the commentary.

Finally someone putting the hysteria to good use.
