Whether you are marketing online or off-line, marketing with New Media or old media — honesty is critical to your sales success. Denying the facts will get you nowhere. Actually in today’s New Media Marketplace with the unbridled power of Social Media; denial will get you creamed!
So what’s the answer to effectively marketing an imperfect product in an imperfect world?
Watch this quick video and find out. I filmed it myself while driving home in Hawaii so the camera angle is off in some parts — but the topic and tips are so good I decided to publish it and give you a good laugh at the same time as a good profit-boosting strategy.
So there you have it, even in the video you see imperfection is not something you need to hide.
What’s your take?
- Have you ever felt like you had to deny an imperfection in your product or services?
- How do you feel when a Marketplace Molester or List Pimp tries to tell you you’re just imagining things?
- How could you “frame” imperfections in a way that actually grows your Tribe?

Word up, JP!
I’ll testify to that in a huge way. I’m glad I caught this on twitter today. My whole theme these past few months is letting loose this image of proper professionalism. That’s how I run my blog and that’s how I conduct myself now.
I’m a true New Yorker at heart and one day while i was thinking and suffering from thinking about my bad situation, I looked at the info i was working with and basically said “What the f***?!”
Here I was, a kid from the streets in NYC, afraid to talk to people about money. Because it was business related, there’s a classic movie about the entrepreneur that serves the images we’re used to seeing.
It was a deep identity problem I was overlooking. The truth is that being from NYC is the most essential part of any help I bring to businesses or working people.
That, at heart, I’m a kid who never had much money and thought it was bulls*** that my life was set up that way. And all I want to do is show people what I know about changing that quickly, effectively, and without traditional risk. More money less problems.
My MOVIE is truly about rewriting the rules about how the everyday person gets more money without more problems. And as long as I’m delivering that awesome ending, it shouldn’t matter if I can’t even spell money.
There’s a sound foundation, I think, to every good product and service and it’s from this base, people can reframe how they do business. Thanks JP for gettin all that out of me today
Great to hear Christopher! Your personal brand is a critical key to connecting with your Tribe and creating a crowd of Loyals rabid to both do business with you AND defend you in the marketplace.
Along with the mistake of trying to deny imperfection, trying to be something you are not (in business or life) is the fastest way to break trust and crush rapport before it even begins.
BTW — being from North Jersey, I TOTALLY get what you’re saying about your unique style. Most NYC & Jersey entrepreneurs have an edge that should be honed, not hidden.
Yep, my tristate peeps definitely get me a whole lot more than others. It makes me mad sometimes. Especially because I was taken for a ride for a little bit until I wised up. It happens, though.
I don’t think anyone should be denied or deny themselves freedom or money on account of something called an imperfection, ya know? That’s just bad ju ju in this tribal minded man’s opinion.
